I made a quick trip this weekend up to the North Shore to pick up a canoe. The timing was great as it was a perfect weather weekend and the colors were showing. It was late in the afternoon and I stopped at the boat launch on Lax Lake. There were some colorful lily pads however there was a bit of an algae bloom. It created some interesting patterns and colors.

Here is a shot from last week... we entered at Round Lake and paddled to Little Sag. Lots of rain the first part of the week but good weather the last part.
We decided it was good weather for mushrooms :-)

Just spent 8 days camping...including 3 backpacking in Crosby Manitou State Park. This is a shot just downstream from our campsite. site 5 is on the left side of the river just beyond the little falls, right at waters edge. We had to speak up to be heard over the roar of the river. Spectacular spot.

Great shot - moving water, falls colors... it doesn't get much better!

Looks like we still need a shot for the day... I try to always keep a little point and shoot camera in my pocket for when opportunities come up along the portage trail. This is an example of a grab shot from the point and shoot (Canon G9X) Nice camera but not very water resistant... thought I broke it twice when taking shots in light rain.

Caribou Wildlife Management area features the Aspen Parklands. Managed by fire and rotational grazing they make a wonderful place to hunt or just explore. It is like walking in a park in most places, especially when you get on a little glacial ridge.

did you bring it home with you? i really enjoy finding stuff like this in the woods, especially if there are other "parts" around and try to piece it back together. this one died on its own? no foul play?

Yes, I have it for now. The person I was hunting with is a junior high school biology teacher. It will be going on display there with the rest of the bones we found. Foul play? We did not see anything obvious to indicate that. It was about 100 yards off the trail. If I had to guess I would say it was taken by wolves but maybe because it had some injury. We only found about half of the bones. I am guessing it had been there for about a year, maybe more.

Several years ago a record elk met the same fate. Interestingly enough, this one had his antlers/head in the same position when we found it.

Several deer crossed the road in front of me tonight. I grabbed that camera off the seat and snapped a couple shots out the window. Two went over the fence, the rest went under or through. This one started from a standing position and cleared the fence with plenty to spare.

Another of those special pictures for me, thank you cowdoc! Here's an old one I have with the same theme and another fall picture with my old buddy and a second pic of our quarry. Gave up duck hunting after he passed as his absence is so painful in the duck blind. RIP Sir Zachary Gunflint Webb.

Sometimes it's just plain luck. I was out shooting the Milky Way and suddenly the Aurora started happening. All I had to do was turn my camera to the right and reduce the shutter speed. I plan to work on it a bit more but it came out of the camera pretty nice.

I'm a little late responding to red's 1st post on Tahquamenon. I stopped there a few years ago and it's definitely worth a stop if you're anywhere nearby. A very impressive falls. Here are a couple of pictures I took:
