Nice. They just opened a season in Illinois. Issued like 500 permits statewide in a lottery. I hunt in me Illinois. Guys up there have seen them but I haven't. No trail cam pics either. Bigger than I thought. That looks like 30 lbs.

Excellent, Pinetree! I've seen exactly one bobcat (in the Black Hills) and one lynx (Gunflint Trail) in my 50-plus years---compared to 20-plus wolves. Wild cats are secretive critters, and to see or even photograph one is a lucky occurrence.

I hunt various things, and am not being judgmental, but why would anyone want to hunt one?
"
Yup, I feel the same way. Whatever floats your boat I suppose. Good luck on that BTW, hunting any Cat in the wild would seem to me to be the ultimate recipe for failure. I bet they fill very few of those tags.
Lets Go!

Beautiful. I'd love to be a fly in the woods to see what they're up to all day and what the territory looks like...can't imagine how amazing it'd be to see one hunting...let alone see one at all.

Great picture.
A few years ago, came across a mother bobcat with two kittens while I was running on a narrow gravel national forest road in northern WI. The kind of road where you can run for many miles and not see another person. I came around a bend in the road and saw her sitting in the middle of the road. When I got within 100 feet or so, she and one kitten went to one side of the road, and the other kitten went to the other. I was less than halfway to my turnaround point, and I really didn't want to turn around and head back to the car so early. If you know any runners, you probably know how we can get when we're doing our thing - stubborn as all hell. I stopped for a second, then thought to myself, "she could pounce on me if she wanted to, and she could scratch me up pretty badly, but she couldn't kill me." So I ran onward, splitting the mother and the one kitten from the other kitten. I have never heard a more threatening, angry noise in my life than the hiss/growl/moan/roar she gave me as I passed through, but she left me alone.
Running between the mother and her kitten might not have been the smartest thing to do, but it was sure cool to see those beautiful cats. And I lived to tell the tale.

Have a feeling you ran pretty fast through there.
Never lost. All portages and roads go somewhere or they would not be there.

Great Photo Pinetree! Did you have a bait out to attract it?
I attended a seminar in Ely on wildlife photography using Trail Cameras given by Sparky Stenaas. He's a wildlife photographer and naturalist. With the improving quality of the cameras it's getting really popular. He said to always point the camera north so the angle of the sun is good and he stakes out a raw chicken sometimes just below the cameras view.
I have also heard of people hanging a crystal from fish line to attract Bobcats and Lynx. I believe the cats are fascinated by how it spins and reflects light even at night. It would be great to get a photo of a cougar.
Great job. Look forward to more surprises.

I live in a well-populated suburb of Dallas. I came home tonight to an email that a bobcat was spotted walking through the front yards on my block at 10:00 p.m. last night. I thought I saw one a few weeks ago out my window but convinced myself that it was just a big house cat. I have 3 small dogs and a dog door. I guess I'll be escorting them outside now.

Great 2nd pic Pinetree. Appears to be the same cat from your first pic from the front left leg markings??/
RMinMN-- that is a crazy video. Thanks for sharing both of you.
