I've been using Google Sketchup to model projects/interior design for a few years now, and Just recently have been learning how to approximate complex curves- Which, of course, has me thinking about canoe design.
Has anyone else tried this? It's no professional boat design software, but it's free and fairly easy to learn. Complex surfaces like a boat hull are going to be approximated with a mesh of triangles, and you can get a rather huge file size pretty fast. But it should be plenty accurate to be able to print out full-size stations.
Here's a brief video of my first attempt: It's a cross between a Northwind 17 and a MNII. 17.5' overall, 34"beam, 2.5" forward rocker, 1.5" rear rocker, 19" sheer at the bow and 14" amidships.
