I have book-matched my strips for each side of the hull. One thing I strive for is to have the points on the port and starboard strips meet as one point along the center line.

I have cut my center line and those strips are fixed in place. I know what to do if my lay-up strip is slightly higher than the fixed strips (plane down the bead). But what do I do if my lay-up side is running lower than the fixed side ?

Leave a small gap and either fill it with a sliver of wood or thickened and tinted epoxy (or wood filler) before fiberglassing.

I had a real good suggestion from "Brian" on the Bear Mountain site. He suggested this:

1) Glue a scrap of cove strip ( having the same color and grain ) to the bead of the strip that needs some fat. I used a scrap about 15" long.
2) Bevel the scrap down to add about 1/16" to the bead of the full strip.
3) Plane and sand the new addition to taper out and achieve a nice bead.
4) Go forth to the canoe and fit the new strip in place.

This technique worked great and when on the canoe you can barely see where I added wood.
