Got up and made coffee with biscuits and gravy for breakfast. My favorite. Got over to the Sylvania Wilderness by 11. Got our day pass, dumped garbage, and checked out the beach. The plan was to drop me and the canoe off at Crooked Lake. I would paddle the lake, portage over to Clark Lake and meet them at the swimming beach on Clarke Lake. As I headed south, down the river like lake, I could see a storm rolling in. Not a big deal as long as there wasn't any lightning. Crack! And there was lightning, so I got on shore and tried to wait the storm out. After an hour, I started thinking that my 3 year old nephew was probably driving his mommy nuts, so I put back in the water. It was still raining but no lightning, the rain was cool and the lake was warm causing a rolling mist with the wind. As I approached the portage, the lake began to fill up with tall grass and I couldn’t see a trail leading to the portage. Lucky for me there was a red kayak on the shoreline, so I punched through the grass until I finally found a trail about a 100 yards out from the portage. Portage wasn’t bad, nice and wide. As I approached the lake I could finally tell the wind was going to be behind me for the entire length of the lake (that’s a first). As I made my way down the lake I was a little miffed, because I could hear the thumping of bass from someone playing music too loud. But to offset that nescience I did get to see a loon only 20 feet out. Got to the beach and Carmen and Alex had taken their showers. So I proceeded to take mine and we headed out looking for some more falls. Couldn’t find the “off the beaten path” falls but did stop by Robbins Pond (which seemed buggy). Made our way over to Imp Lake Campground (4/5) and took a group picture on one of the lake sites. Made it back to camp and had hamburgers for dinner. Sat around a fire for the first time and went to bed.
