Day two we awoke to damp ground, but clear skies. After an early put-in we headed deeper into the park. A couple hours after put-in we passed two young women who had departed Nym right before us. They hit the water about the time we passed and we paddled in proximity for them through the Pickerel Narrows until we stopped for lunch. Today would be typical of our weather for the trip, mostly clear skies with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70’s. It was perfect weather. This was to be our only non-portage day of the trip. We finally arrived at a campsite on the southwest end of Pickerel Lake designated 524 or 1GL. There are really two campsites on this island. One on the east end and an extended one on the west end; both are connected by a trail. Ours was on the west end and it was one of the nicest sites we saw.

There was also a nice rock bar out to a small rock with two pine trees which gave the girls a chance to splash around for a bit. We could just see another canoe at a campsite across the lake. It looked like someone soloing. Human count for Quetico is now at 3. We had a good chance to dry out our gear from the previous night’s storm and experienced a beautiful sunset and sunrise at this location.
