July 22 – We are off - We checked in at Canadian Customs and began our trip. Our entry point was Carp. There were a lot of groups entering at the same time and the portages were a bit slow. By the time we hit Knife, some of the crowd had peeled off up the Man chain. As we moved through Knife, others dropped off until we found ourselves nearly alone in upper Knife. The wind was at our back the whole way. We did notice that the Loon numbers were thin. When we got back to Williams and Hall, Dave explained that the high water had flooded the nests and had hit the Loon population hard. We stopped around 4:00 and made camp. It was not an established camp, but the hammocks made it possible. It was my first night in a hammock, J had tried one out in the backyard, and it took a bit of tweaking to get it right. I used a Jacks Are Better hammock, while J used a Blackbird.
