Friday, September 13, 2013: Today’s destination is Saginaw, MI, but first there is a detour to the northeast to see Tahquamenon Falls. The weather is good and I’ve decided this is the year I’m finally going to see the waterfalls. I get an early start and arrive at the Upper Falls just after the tour bus. I decide to have my lunch of apples, peanut butter, and dark chocolate first. After lunch I walk the trails viewing and photographing the waterfalls from various vantage points. The Upper Falls is impressive. According to the literature it’s the second largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River and the Tahquamenon River rushes its 50,000 gallons of water per second over the Upper Falls 50-foot drop and over 200-foot width. The Lower Falls four miles downstream is split by an island into two waterfalls, each with a 22-foot drop and over 100 feet wide.

Afterwards I buy a postcard of the falls to send to Sara and then I order an ice cream for me and one for Sara, and eat them both since she’s not here. But someday Sara will come to see the great Tahquamenon Falls. I hit the road for Saginaw and Motel 6.
