On this day, we returned to our special, secret spot and got into many more smallies and northern. It was windy and cloudy but the fish did not seem to mind. Every time I said "Maybe we should get going home." Colin would look toward Mike and Alex and say, "Dad they are fishing in the opposite direction." We could not stop ourselves. Alex got two smallies over 20 inches. Mike kept losing jigs but Colin would say, "We'll get them back for you." Because many fish we caught on spoons would have his green jigs, leech and gulp in their mouths! That was pretty funny. Since the walleye were not biting, we kept three small northern to go with our one walleye for a dinner. We did not think keeping one fish apiece for five days was too bad. That night we ate fish, and laughed at our good fortune. It had been a great time and we had enjoyed every minute. That night, a bear came through camp near Mike's tent...it growled and grunted as Mike tried to call to me--Jeff! Jeff! But I was too deeply asleep to hear him. What a great partner I am. Right after the presumed bear ambled through (they never saw it) Alex informed Mike that he did not feel well and wanted to throw up! Neither of them wanted to go out of the tent, however, and finally Alex's stomach calmed down.
