Second trip into Quetico with a Scout group. Covered a large part of Northwest Quetico.
Day 1 of 8
Thursday, July 06, 2016

We arrived at the BSA Northern Tier Base in Ontario. This was my second trip out of here with a Scout crew into Quetico. The first time was in 2012 with my daughter and an all girl Venturing Crew. This time it was with my son and a Boy Scout Crew. It's always a great experience when done right, as the youth get the experience of actually planning and making the decisions for the trip. Northern Tier provides an "interpreter" that is along for safety, to give the youth training in canoe camping, and to make sure that you don't get so lost that you miss your exit. Other than that, they are just along for the trip, allowing the youth to figure it out and get wilderness leadership experience. Our group consisted of the interpreter who me met there as well as 3 adults and 5 youth in age from 14 to 16. After planning their route, inventorying and prepping gear, etc. our group spent the night in a bare bones cabin before we hit the road in the morning for our entry.
