Quetico 2016
by rdricker
We awoke on day two to what would feel like the norm for this trip (even though it wasn't)....rain. If it's one thing that I despise, it's rain, but we wouldn't have beautiful canoe country without it, so you take the good with the bad! This day we made our way into the northern interior of Quetico, hopping from Maria-Jesse-Elizabeth-Walter-Lonely and finally into Sturgeon Lake where the rain finally broke for the rest of the day. We enjoyed some of the scenery of the way and after a westerly paddle down Sturgeon, we discovered a group already at the island site where we had planned to camp. This was a blessing in disguise though, as after a short paddle we arrived at a premium campsite. Site KP, a beautiful spur on the south shore of Sturgeon, with a beautiful long beach, plenty of room and flat area. It wasn't the typical campsite because of this, but with plenty of room to spread out, allowed for some solitude, even within the group.
Nice fall/rapid area between Elizabeth and Walter
