Rain first half of the day and wind built throughout the day. Mid 50s for temp.

I woke up to a cool cloudy morning with some light rain. It was relatively calm so I was excited to get out fishing. We made some breakfast and tidied up camp a bit. I then paddled over to my brother’s camp to see if he wanted to go out walleye fishing. We headed out for a couple hours and managed a few Walleye and they were all quite nice between 18-22 inches. It was very slow going though for the most part. The weather was overcast with on and off rain and the wind slowly built throughout the morning. I hung out and talked with my brother and some of his friends for a while. From the weather forecast I knew it was supposed to be rainy and cool most of the day so we wanted to pack up and move on to our next campsite. We played some card games and relaxed around camp a bit before we had lunch.

Then we finished packing up camp and headed out. Around 1pm the rain stopped but there was still a bit of wind but thankfully it was at our back. Our group tried a little bit of fishing for some Smallies but only managed a couple but it was tough with the wind. We did some paddling and a couple portages and we were on our Lake for the next couple days. It was still quite windy for most of the afternoon and in to the evening. The temperature was still in the Mid 50s so it was quite cool and the rain and wind was starting to wear on us some. However, the guys kept good attitudes and we made the most of it. We cast out a slip bobber and managed to catch a few small mouth and pike throughout the afternoon. Firewood was collected, naps were taken, books were read, and fishing gear was prepared as we waited out the weather. The clouds and rain broke around dinnertime but the wind continued in to the evening and was too strong to attempt fishing which was quite disappointing to me. We talked around the campfire for a couple hours planning the next day’s activities. The stars came out and we were hopeful for some sun in the morning and warmer weather.

At around 9pm I heard a bang and rumble type sound with the clear skies could only mean one thing. Someone was portaging in to the lake at 9:30pm. I could not believe this and surely enough after a while a solo canoeist came paddling up and asked if he could stay at the site with us. I am usually a very nice and accommodating person but I was quite annoyed. However, due to the hour and knowing there were no open sites on the lake and for at least a mile of paddling we let him stay. This was the first time this has ever happened to me on any of my trips. It ended up not being a big deal but was inconvenient.
