Thursday, August 29, 2024. Up dark and early to get a jump on the day. Had some quick coffee and a hand held breakfast then scooted over to the portage. It was still early but a guy in a solo beat us to it and was already moving his stuff when we arrived. It was overcast but clearing fast. Mainly because the wind was kicking up already. Our exit wasn't until tomorrow so we did a real short day and got off the water by noon. And the wind was a'blowin. There were some good white caps. We were just up around the corner from Prairie Portage and saw a constant flow of day tripping motor boats going by. They were slamming the waves hard and having a rough ride. The canoes where having a real rough ride and fighting a mighty headwind. Did not look like fun. We just hung around camp and read books. The clouds rolled in and we had a little rain sprinkle on us

Had our dinner by a nice campfire and headed off to my cozy hammock cocoon.

Not a restful night! The wind came up and blew HARD! kind of scared the crap outta me as I waited for the sound of a tree crashing down. Finally fell asleep when I got tired of worrying.
