Friday, August 23, 2024 We woke up to a dreary morning. The night before we checked the weather and it had some possibility of morning showers. So we decided that we would be in no hurry to leave. Once again just a few sprinkles. Definitely not what the locals call "showers". It was still very cloudy and looked like rain could happen at anytime. So we decided to stay put for another night and explore the area. Besides we had a great pack hang set up for the food. We still had the steaks, eggs, milk, bags of salad, and all the other fresh food in the CCS insulated pack. Two 1 gallon milk cartons filled with fresh water and frozen solid we keep food cold for almost a week in that pack. It was still quite heavy and we weren't eager to move it. We decided to check out Louisa Falls up close and personal.
There was a campsite about half way up on the right. There was room but it was very sloped in most spots. Maybe one semi-flat spot for a tent. Nice view over Agnes from the fire ring. We got to the top for a view of Louisa lake and found it to be the end of a river. You'd have to get in a boat and go around a couple of corners to see the lake. There is a swimming hole about half way down the falls that's called "the Bathtub". To have a swimming spot in the middle of a waterfall is somewhat unfamiliar to me. Swimming in a waterfall in the Sierra Nevada is at best very cold, being snowmelt, and at worst, very hazardous if you get swept down by the current. We usually avoid it. But here I tried it out after Mart went in with no problem. It was actually very nice with a depth that allowed me to stand up and still be in water almost up to my neck. Being August it was not cold at all.

We headed back down to camp and were going to try fishing. But the weather turned with some wind and clouds looking more threatening than before. We hung out around camp instead. I tried fishing from shore but it was too shallow so I gave up. We had the bratwurst for dinner as they were fully thawed now. We sat in our chairs next to our table and enjoyed clearing skies and a nice sunset
A little after dinner scotch was a perfect cap to a relaxing day. We got as much as we could could packed up and organized as we wanted to get right out in the morning.
