Sunday, August 25, 2024 Nice pleasant night of sleeping in the hammock. I sure do love the hammock sleeping. I think I've given up on sleeping on the ground unless it's absolutely necessary. It can be a little claustrophobic but the comfort quickly overrides that feeling. Make the morning cup of coffee and enjoy the beautiful sunny morning. The wind is blowing a little but we're well protected in our site. Mart started getting stuff together to go fishing. I go for a quick swim and as I come out of the water, Mart asks about my spare battery supply. Arrrggg he didn't check the batteries in the fish finder when he packed. They were as dead as a door nail. Though he wasn't worried at first because he had packed extras....or did he? Maybe they were on the floor of his car with the fishing pole that he forgot. They certainly weren't in any of his gear. I have my stash of extra batteries so I check those. I have some AAs but no AAAs which is what we need. That's okay we'll go old school and just start throwing our lines in the water. And use the map that has some good fishing spots marked out on it. By now it's late morning and were off. The wind had picked up through the morning but we didn't notice as it was still coming out of the South and we had a big island blocking it. As we paddled around the corner, Bam! we caught full force of it. Rough water and strong winds blew our empty canoe around like a cork on the water. We looked for a sheltered spot that showed fish on our map and saw none that fit that. So we turned around, and felt like we almost rolled it, and headed back towards camp. Settled back in and decided a day in a nice sheltered camp would be nice. I went to the south shore of the island and fished the channel between the islands. Caught a few small bass and lost a good Mepps lure. Then did a full island explore. It was pretty easy as there was plenty of open ground. it was connected to a much larger island to the North but I didn't want to go that far. Back to camp to relax and make dinner. I forget what it was but we ate well as always. Decision had already been made as we were having a very nice relaxing trip. We stayed extra days at places and our only destination was back at Prairie Portage for our tow back. Checking the weather showed some rough weather coming in that night with some good winds. I moved my hammock from the high spot I had with a good view to lower protected spot in the camp.
