Day 9 of 11
Wednesday, August 28, 2024 Figured it would be a good day to get an early start as the weather report predicted the wind would be kicking up. We woke up to cloudy skies but it quickly cleared. The next sections were some of the most beautiful paddling of the trip. It was a lot of narrow lakes and rivers. with short portages too.
And now on to South Lake.

And then down the river to Basswood. Where we ran into one of our favorite things, Brake Pads.. I mean lily pads. Which leads to the inevitable beaver dam and a pull over .

Then across North bay to the Burke portage. There was some wind going across but wasn't too bad. We paddled up Burke and chased some juvenile ducklings for a while.

They parents weren't around and they didn't seem to want to take off. Eventually they veered to the side and we went by. We set up camp on the island across from the portage to Basswood. Settled in for some more relaxing as the wind kicked up again.
Mart checked on the weather report and it called for some serious winds starting early a increasing throughout the day. So early sleep for a dawn departure.
