Day 1 of 7
Monday, June 18, 2007 Left So. MN at 4 am and met up with group in the Twin Cities. Repacked and headed North about 6. Drive was uneventful until we reached Dryden. On asking how far to Red Lake we were informed that the only road to Red Lake had washed out the night before and was currently closed. No one seemed to know when it would reopen. Decided to continue and hope the road opened sometime that day. Fortunately, the road opened late afternoon and we continued to Red Lake. Arrived at GoldSeekers at 7 PM and loaded the canoes, filled out the paperwork and went over the maps with Keith. Bugs were out in force and with all the rain recently this was a preview of things to come. Another couple from Wisc. and a solo paddler from Chicago were also heading out thru Leano lake on Tues. morning. Stayed the night at the bunkhouse at Goldseekers.
