It was a red/white stiped daredevle which has caught me many fish, including the last one - a northern that exceeded three feet in length and bent the hooks straight as it ripped the lure from its jaw with a shake of its head.

All three you mentioned are good spoons. I probably throw my Doctor spoon the least. My two go-to spoons are my black/white Daredevle and my large gold/orange Little Cleo.
I just dressed on my Williams Wobbler with some midnight silver marabou flash, a replacement spoon as my friend lost my 2.6 oz little cleo UGHHH !

Love the battle damage visible on that black/white Daredevle.
If I was going for pike, I would use the red 5 diamond Daredevle.

the hot pink has got some scares too,
locally i've probably done better on the gold little cleo(that one actually weighs 1.6 oz , the Red little cleo that my friend lost weighs like 2.6 oz , you definitely need a musky rod and #50+ plus braid to cast that lure , and my friend claims he snapped it off on one of those set ups ? ! , but he did buy me the williams spoon , which are not cheap.
in the BW blk/wht daredevil has been extremely good.

2 other notable spoons are the krocodile spoon , and as SV said the Dr. spoon wobbles at lower speeds , the krocodile is kind of the opposite ,
and the
K.O. Wobbler , very good spoon and will cut any wind out there , if your low on line it can spool you ;) nice heavy little spoon . worth adding 1 to the arsenal ;)

shock: "pic of the K.O. wobbler , (lower right) silver one side bright orange the other ,
and just for the record there's no lure that gets you distance like the K.O. JS, "
I've never even heard of that one. Looks interesting. Wit that body thickness and profile it almost looks like a Rippin Rap or Slab Rap. Nice weight to that spoon I'm sure. Something different for when a Kastmaster isn't producing and you need a long casting spoon.

I didn't see anyone mention the Johnson Splinter Spoon. Does anyone use these?
My GF actually found a gold 1/4 oz one along a river last time we were out fishing and put it in our tackle box.
When we were up in the BWCA the Lakers weren't biting so I was trying different lures for the heck of it and put that on. I caught a Laker on my first cast and missed 2 more in the next half hour or so. One hit it twice but didn't get a hook in it and the other followed it until it seen us then darted away.
They have a nice wobble action on a steady retrieve and have a lot of fluttering and flash on the drop when you jig or rip it.
I'm thinking about adding a couple more to the arsenal.

Just looking at the pictures, the splinter spoon looks similar to the kastmaster. Have you compared it to a kastmaster?
What color spoon were the lake trout going for?

A perennial favorite for lake trout and landlocked salmon on the big lakes in Maine is the Mooselook Wobbler. Bass Pro/Cabelas carries them. I've had success with these in the BWCAW. Another good line is from Everett Lures. These are geared primarily for trout.
Just waiting for iceout.

Shock beat me to this one, but the Williams Wabler W70 in either gold or sliver/gold is an absolute winner for pike.
The Daredevle spoon is also very good. While many love the old classic red and white version, I've routinely done much better with both the Firetiger Pattern (shown below) as well as the five of diamonds.
Both of these options will catch a stray bass, walleye, or trout now and again, but they are extremely effective for northern pike. With spoons, I've had my best luck when the water temperatures are over 50°F. With colder water, I'll do better with slower moving baits like a Rapala husky jerk or the FLR16 shown in the picture.
