Ya, we are anticipating a more buggy year this year as we went at the end of july last year. Didnt experience any blk flies. What is best to deal with flies?
What type of container do you bring your minnows out with? Any campsite you can suggest or any fishing spots?
My goal this year is to catch a walleye and be able to do a fish fry for my friends.

Pick up your minnows in a plastic bag with oxygen in them (any bait shop in Ely will do this). Bring a minnow bucket along and once you get to your camp, put the minnows from the bag into the bucket and tie off on shore. Make sure the bucket locks or you can tie it shut or you may wake up to no minnows. Do the same for leeches if you want to bring leeches, but put them into a leech locker.
If you want to catch walleye, I would suggest using 1/4 to 3/8 oz yellow jigs tipped with minnows or leeches. Fish above and below the currents between Little Gabbro/Gabbro and Gabbro/Bald Eagle. Fish the narrows where you come into Bald Eagle out to the island in front of them. Fish the windy side of the lake, around rock piles, etc. You will catch some walleye. Change depths until you find fish.
I have not been down the Spruce Road since February, but yes there is logging going on back there. Depending on where they are working and which way the wind is blowing, you may hear them. Watch out for the logging trucks on the Spruce Road
You will see a lot of people. Gabbro is a popular entry point and it seems like most people go in and stay on either Gabbro or Bald Eagle for the entirety of their trip.
You will see a lot of bugs. June is very buggy. The best way to deal with bugs is to spend time out on the lake fishing. The second best way is to wear some dope and/or use permethrin, especially when on the campsite.
