I just purchased a Smoker-Craft Canoe 17' with SMK00197M78A stamped on the side. Capacity decal has been scratched off. I m trying to find out any info on this canoe. It needs a new stern thwart. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, it was made in January of 1978. However, with an aluminum canoe, that doesn't matter. Capacity? It will carry whatever you put in it ... provided it's not all rocks or cast iron. Check the condition. No leaks. Creases? Big dents? It's probably really good. Only issue is probably the weight for portaging. The thwart can be replaced with a wooden thwart.

Have fun!
