I recently purchased a used Katadyn pocket filter and I was wondering if there is any way to test it. It has a ceramic filter and there are no visible cracks. The filter is hardly used, but I just want to be sure it's filtering properly.
I seem to remember a video I watch where the guy used done dye drops and the filtered water came out clear.
I bought mine new, and it came with a small gauge that measured the diameter of the ceramic filter--if it is able to be slipped over the filter, then it is suggested that the filter is worn out. You might want to check for that small gauge.
