Awesome. Last time I went that way was back in 94' with my dad. We NEVER had any issues in the numerous times we went that route. The one time I went out of Moose lake out to Ensign, then Ashigan- nothing but bears the whole darn way. That was in 95'. So since then, I have always tried to keep tabs on any "hotspots", so I know where to avoid.

The Sawbill Outfitters' online "newsletter" had this recent post on bear activity, complete with a picture of chewed up water bottles, but the lakes mentioned are all east of where you're headed.
8/21/17 - The Forest Service has received a handful of reports of bear activity in the Boundary Waters this summer and has asked us to pass that information along to our customers.
Bears have been spotted in campsites on Ogishkemunchi, Gneiss, Knife, Duncan, and Seagull. There was no aggressive behavior in any of these cases, although some of the bears did make a mess.

Yep! If my luck holds there'll be bear tenderloin on the grill tomorrow evening...with onions and mushrooms. Mmm Mmmmm!!!
