09/16/2019 03:31PM The Horse River will probably be pretty low, from my understanding. That one may involve a bit of unmarked portaging. Looks like a sweet route otherwise! There is a lot of good fishing from Boulder Bay to Curtain Falls to Big Current (Thursday Bay) to Lower Basswood Falls. You have so much moving water to fish that I wouldn't focus too much on any other lake features unless action near moving water was totally dead. Enjoy yourself and stay warm! |

09/16/2019 08:19AM Regarding solitude and seeing others - when are you going? October - lots of solitude everywhere. July-August - maybe not too many on way out to Stuart. And I'm struggling a little to see route on map but I think you have enough time to poke into LLC. I like the Bottle River and that SE wing of LLC. Portage distance looks high or is that the application accounting for double portage - triple the portage length? |

09/16/2019 07:53AM If you have that much time...take your eastern route from 23 up to the border. (Or stay in Jackfish Bay the whole way up) Then you can enjoy the many falls and drops of Upper Basswood Falls and also Wheelbarrow falls which the other options skip. You can also camp along the upper Falls in various sites if that's your thing. Table rock is just north of the pictos where the river widens into Wednesday Bay and turns SW. Cool historic spot that you'll be going by anyway. I think your solitude will be greatest on Crooked between Friday Bay and curtain falls. That is until you start heading toward Stuart which will probably be the quietest area. |

09/15/2019 09:12PM Suggest a visit to Pictographs on Lac La Croix. Some of best in boundary waters. Not far from there, is Warrior hill in Canada. You can float up to it, but do not get out without proper permits for the Q and Canada. |

09/15/2019 06:58PM Hi All, I'm planning on 9 days solo for this route. In comparing with what I've done on prior trips, this seems very doable for me, but I'm primarily wondering: > What scenic points should I be aware of nearby? Pictos, cliffs, falls, etc. I'm aware of Basswood Falls, Basswood river pictos, Curtain Falls. What else? > Are any of the rivers I'm on going to be too shallow 9/21 - 9/29? (not worried about pullovers on Moosecamp) > What parts can I expect the most/least solitude? > Let me know your overall thoughts of the route. I just need to put in at 23 and out at 19. Everything else is flexible (the zigzags are to add mileage/scenery). The only thing on my "must-do" is Curtain Falls.
