Thanks for all the input. We really appreciate it!

We were also considering (depending on weather) visiting/staying on Finger Lake and/or Hustler Lake. Anything of particular interest in these directions?

Two possible spots of interest come to mind along your route.

On Nina Moose there is a spring with ice cold water on the west side of the lake. If you go N/NW as you exit the Moose River you should see a "path" into the woods about 1/2 way or sooner up the lake. The spring is less than 30 feet into the woods.

There are also pictographs on Rocky Lake on the west side.

Have a great trip.

OldTripper: "Mattbrome: "Where is the cabin on Lac la Croix?"
I think this is the cabin the previous poster was referring to. From Bottle portage go south west to the blue dot in the back of the bay, between the 67r and 326r portages.

ETA: for some reason the colors are all distorted, at least on my screen, but you get the idea."

Yes, if you take the 67rod flat portage, it passes right by the cabin. There's a boathouse there too, pretty cool to check out as you paddle by.

WillVan56: "cyclones30: "WillVan56: "Don't miss Rebecca Falls, not sure if viewing them technically qualifies under the Webster-Ashburton Treaty but I don't think it would be an issue. I must say that I was disappointed to witness a group of six guys who were camped on Iron fishing below the falls with minnows while drinking cans of beer. "

If they're on the US side...only the cans are a no-no. Minnows are fine.

As for your other sights....the cabin in back Bay of LLC? Not a relic of past generations or anything but not many of those around anymore. The portage along Dahlgren River near Boulder river is supposed to have awesome trees and a cool Falls/rapids "

Below the falls is McAree Lake, definitely in Quetico. "

Ah, yes. For some reason when I read Iron I was thinking Curtain falls and people fishing with minnows below that. Rebecca is definitely in Canada

The LLC cabin is in the back of the little bay SW of where the bottle river flows in from Knife. You can see on google maps

Given that Rebecca Falls are more than 1 km from the border at the closest point, going there without RABCs etc stretches the Treaty to the breaking point, IMHO.

Yes, we will plan to see Curtain Falls and camp 1 night on Iron Lake. We will paddle very close to Rebecca Falls but as the outfitter suggests, it does line fully within Canada.
WillVan56 05/27/2020 08:34PM
Curtain falls is also the opposite direction, even a little further east.

We contacted our permitting outfitter who suggested we not go to Rebecca Falls as the border is currently 100% closed and it lies completely in Canada..."
Plus Rebecca is on Iron Lake. The opposite direction you plan on traveling.

I did that same route last week. There's a cool site across from the LLC pictographs with a stone table. Kind of impressive. Have fun be safe
Mattbrome 05/27/2020 08:37AM
My wife and I are headed to EP 16 next week. We plan to go north through Agnes, hop over to Iron for a night, north through Lac la Croix, west through Pocket, and then south through Ge Be, to Oyster, then back to Agnes and out.

We have a week and I have been on this same route many times. We are confident in being able to make our destinations each day with several hours to spare. We plan to see Top of the World, Curtain Falls on Iron, the Pictographs on Lac la Croix, and the "chairs" on Ge Be.

What am I missing? Is there something along that route (or maybe a lake or two off) that we should go see? The thread about BWCA history with logging and other relics (the car on Fourtown comes to mind) got me thinking perhaps there is something to see that our past trips have missed.

Can anyone point out items to see that we may have overlooked?

Thanks!
