Minor clarification - the MN DNR has nothing todo with the management of style BWCA, it’s the US Forest Service.

That said, like C30said, they really don’t change too often at all. Perhaps more importantly, the map companies do not always do a great job of updating the maps when there are changes. Some times the map will show a campsite and it will look like it’s not there but is is - just very overgrown from lack of use. And once in a while the maps show a campsite in one spot but it’s actually 2-300 yards away. I’d say map accuracy is a bigger issue that frequency of USFS changes.

I still routinely use old maps. The biggest issue I find is red dots fading from UV light.

It seems a vast majority don't change. If you've got an old map....maybe 95% or more will be the same. Yes there are beaver dams and such that change portages a bit but that's expected. Campsites usually aren't moved or added, but sometimes are closed due to maintenance or fire or other situations.

If you're really concerned about a certain area for some reason...call a local outfitter or the ranger station that serves that area...they should know.

Just wondering how often does the DNR move/relocate campsites? I have a number of maps that are 10 & 15 years old and just curious if portages and campsites change - and if so - is there any dbase that manages that information? Date of new site/portage?
