It's a nice campground. Good tent sites and cabins. Lots of tree cover. Campsites and cabins are fairly secluded. There were campers who ran generators during the day. They usually shut them off during the evenings. It was almost full when I stayed there last July with my daughter. All the other FS campgrounds around Ely or up the Gunflint (e.g. Lake Jeanette) were either full or closed for the season. There are also backcountry sites on the lake that you can paddle to and stay for free if that's an option you are considering.

That's interesting. My Senior Pass worked great for Fall Lake and had great savings for our June trip. Forgot to look for this at Birch Lake Campground, but I see now there is a note about "no discounts for non-electric cabin".

I checked them out for a few days in June.
Your senior pass is no Bueno. No cabins cabins only campsites. I plan on checking out the campground when I'm there this may - June for future trips.
I agree a cooler....a few filets in a bag.... then its time to catch fresh fish.....
Im looking forward to reconing Birch this year. A deep cycle battery and led lights eliminates a need for a generator..

I stayed at Birch Campground in my camper and ran my generator during the day time hours. A camper across from the host ran their generator all night, most likely running a cpac. But my wife and I got chased out of Feinske Lake for running our Honda for her O2 generator. The cabins are nice and reasonably priced. Also the campground is on lake level unlike Kawawishi Lake which is much higher than the lake. I had a site you could tie up your boat at.

Has anyone stayed at one of the rustic cabins at Birch Lake Campground? Any insight or advice? Can you run a generator in the campground? If you stay a few days fishing, how do you keep your filets cold and fresh?
