05/09/2021 01:13AM I appreciate the feedback. We will definitely be hitting a few of the trails off the Gunflint on the way up. The Pallisades trail and the Paulson portage should be enough to get out of the canoe and stretch a bit. Thanks |

There’s actually quite a bite of hiking to be found on the gunflint trail, but most trailheads are reached via roads. There’s the obvious BRT and Kek options, but lots of smaller hikes with great views that can be done in an hour or two. My favorite being Magnetic Rock Trail which is a very short drive from Seagull as well. Cook County Hiking. As for Seagull -- Agree that the palisades and paulsen portage are your best options. There is also a "hidden" waterfall along the south shore that you can look for. |

05/08/2021 08:41AM Welcome to bwca.com!I highly recommend hiking the portage to Paulson Lake. It is a challenging portage but, makes for an excellent, very scenic hike. If you haven't done so already? You might want to check out the interactive map section. There's alot of good information about campsites, portages and interesting things to see. |

05/08/2021 01:49AM Brand new to the forum! I think I may have worn out the search function on this site, but what a wealth of info. My daughter and I will be making our first BW trip in August. I waited a little late to get a permit so the choices were slim. We will be staying 3 nights on Seagull Lake (Seagull only permit). We plan to base camp and maybe portage into one of the adjoining areas for a day trip. My daughter loves hiking and I was wondering if anyone could give me any options for some hikes around the Seagull Lake area that could be reached by canoe? I have searched a good bit and the only thing I have found was the Pallisades. Several of the campsite reviews mention inland trails from each site, but I would not want to encroach on someone's site to get out and hike. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any site recs. on Seagull would also be appreciated. |
