05/20/2022 01:48PM I did see a recommendation from the Quetico Park staff to avoid the Russell rapids going from Sturgeon to Russell Lake. They are suggesting/strongly recommending taking the longer portage from Sturgeon to Russell. Might have been on here or. It might have been on Facebook. That being said in a week or two things will change. I’d definitely call the park office as you get closer and get some guidance. They will have by far the most information and up to date recommendations. I don’t need to pick up my permit at the office since I can get it through my outfitter. I’m still definitely stopping in the day before my trip to talk to them. My outfitter won’t really have information for down on the southern side of the park and information on the falls chain. I was planning on camping on the island site on Keats the last couple days of May. Does anyone have any insight to the feasibility of getting there? Tips for moving water around portage landings, etc? Might just have to check with the outfitters and rangers when we get up to Atikokan in a week, and then play it by ear based on the conditions, such as possibly taking the tough portage from Sturgeon into Russell instead of paddling up the Russell Outflow into Sturgeon like normal. |

So amazing..." I'm not reading it that way. The higher water/ice may have damage shore infrastructure and they just need a week to get things under control. I don't read it as the cabin having been flooded. I've never been there though. |

So amazing..." The further down river a lake is the more extreme the rise. The difference can be astonishing. I bet the lakes between Kawinipi and Sturgeon are crazy right now. |

05/19/2022 08:55PM Wow! Based on that water level, I bet the little inlet from Quetico Lake to Beaverhouse must be a raging torrent. Map usage this spring is going to be a bit more of a challenge with these topographic changes. |
