If I can get my butt in gear, I should be on the road heading north by 1 o'clock.I will take my time and visit my kids on the way up, and have a Mudro permit for Sunday. I can only be in for 4 days, but it should be a good test for me. Am I over thinking it by taking a spare paddle, fishing pole and solo stove for just in case?

I will post a report when I return

You are not overthinking it with the spare paddle. Imagine what it would be like if you did somehow break a paddle? Well worth the weight.

Have fun! My first solo was "to see if I could do it" and I fell in love with solo tripping and I now have done one 4 years in a row.

When I solo I do bring a spare paddle, don't bring a spare pole ( for some reason I do not fish very much at all when I solo so I don't worry about breaking the one I bring), and don't bring a spare stove. I have thought about the stove but since my dinners are camp chow "just add boiling water to the bag" meals I decided if my stove doesn't work I can just have it cold or boil water with a fire and I don't cook anything for breakfast or lunch.

I did my solo through Mudro this year before the fishing opener and loved the area. I went up to Fourtown, over to Boot and up around to Moosecamp. Then down the Moosecamp river to Fourtown and over to Horse and down through Tin Can back to Mudro. After that trip Moosecamp became my favorite lake and the Moosecamp River is my favorite 1 and 1/2 hour paddle I've ever done.

Like the others said, a spare paddle is a good idea. I also agree with ducks in that I do not bring spare pole nor stove for the same reasons he said.

You should definitely take the spare paddle and strap it into the canoe so it cannot drift away in a capsize.

Spare fishing pole is up to you; depends on how important the fishing is to you.

If by solo stove, you mean "a stove", by all means take one in case of a fire ban. If you mean a spare stove, I don't know - you can do like ducks said and cook over fire or eat cold. Otherwise, it depends on kind of stove - I don't carry a spare stove, but I do have a spare burner for my JetBoil on longer trips, but that's only 2-3 ounces. Not much can go wrong with an alcohol stove or twig-burner. I'm also one of those "add-boiling-water-eat-out-of-bag" guys - so much simpler, especially for a solo.

One thing to consider if taking a spare stove is that both should use the same fuel, unless, of course, the spare is just a twig-burner.

That will be a good trip for and a good test. You will be out long enough to know how you like it and to learn about things you might do differently.

Have a great first solo, and ware your life jacket waters still cold.
