Just ran across this quote and thought I'd share it here....

“Only by going alone in silence, without baggage, can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness. All other travel is mere dust and hotels and baggage and chatter.”

I have visited his home in CA.

I also worked for Kings Canyon NP in California, Muir was instrumental in the protection of the Kings River Valley.

Great quote. I think being alone in nature with one's own thoughts is a very good thing indeed.

Small world, my paddling buddy's daughter and family just moved from there this past year; his son-in-law worked for the NPS at King's Canyon. I kick myself that I never made it out there while they were living there!

We have photos and vids that show us those wonderful sites.
I try to imagine how Muir must have felt when he first saw some of those amazing places.
He had no real idea what he was about to witness.
I can see how he was so taken by that wilderness.
