Looks like something happened and the report starts with Day 9...
Will try to fix, but here is text for Day 1:
Quetico Solo Day 1
Thursday, Aug. 30
Pete drove my towboat from Moose Lake to Prairie Portage. Very chill on the half hour ride with my fleece under the PDF. On the Ranger Station before they opened at 7:45.
Headed across Inlet Bay for the Yellow Brick Road portage to Burke a little after 8. Snack at a campsite at the US/CAN pinch point. (Lots of motorboats on the US side!) Crazy tailwind across Burke. Beaver dams and low water in the no-name lake. (Levels may be a foot lower than in 2016.)
On North Bay (Basswood Lake) there’s more cross/tailwind. Found a campsite and sent my SPOT message at 12:30. SPAM wrap/fruit snacks lunch. Nice 180 degree view here with plenty of shad, shelter and trails. No one else camped nearby! Clear/cool morning then mostly cloudy then clear again at supper. NOAA: 50% rain tomorrow. Little buggy here.
Good first day!

cyclones30: "Great report! What's a pace meal?"
Look for "Pace" or "Prego" brand microwave meals in the grocery store. (Kind of like MREs, but meant to microwave or heat in pan of boiling water.) Kind of small servings, but great as is for car camping, or home-dehydrated like I use them on canoe trips.

Great trip report! The pictures were awesome. I have traveled those lakes and campsites many times so was able to follow along based on your descriptions and photos. Most of the campsites I had stayed at.
It was a great read! Thanks

Very nice trip report. Well documented with photos. A few years back I "built" a gravity filter system using a Sawyer Mini filter. On my trip a few weeks ago it started running slow and several back flushes didn't seem to do the trick (it was on it's 3rd season) so I took replaced the Mini with the Sawyer Squeeze filter that I had along for a back-up. Wow what a difference, the water filtered through it by the gallon.

Jaywalker: "Fun read and love the photos. You look like a real bad-ass in that blue du-rag. "
A favorite piece of gear. Maybe change my name to OldGreyBadAss? Lol.

Real nice report and well done with the pics. I was in at the same time (8/27-9/7) but north of you around Burntside, Sturgeon and Lonely Lakes. I was remembering the weather I had as you described each day. Yes, low water and very little bugs!
I actually think you experienced more rain than me. And there was the heaviest morning fog I've ever seen on 9/5. I had a layover as well that day on Lonely Lake. It got real breezy later on and quite chilly. Like you, I was glad not to be paddling that day.
I'm curious why you didn't keep going south on Agnes through Sunday Lake? You could have stopped by Louisa Falls for lunch too.

You must mean the 2 Meadows portages. They do kinda suck. I'm just one that doesn't like backtracking. Were you going into a headwind down Agnes? I had those conditions in 2016. I went from Silence Lake, busting butt into a headwind to the Meadows portages and camped on Sunday Lake. I was pretty exhausted after that.

TomT: Yes, the Meadow portages. I know better than to even try them ! If tandem, with my 40 year old SIL carrying the canoe I would probably be ok. Did Badwater portage last year with packs okay. --Goose
