A group of 8-9 will be putting in at Seagull, heading towards Ogish with plans to make our way over to Round lake. We have 6 days, and are hoping to base camp for 2-3 nights at a site with good day trip options for fishing/swimming/hiking. Open to any and all suggestions - we've been on Seagull but the rest of the route is new terrain!

Campsite #792 on Ogish is one of the best campsites I've stayed on, anywhere. Entering at Seagull you can make it in one day with a good push. We did this last year and it took us about 7 hours, but that was with myself and 2 young teenagers, double portaging, at a very leisurely pace. I'd think you could chop a couple hours off of that time if so inclined. We stayed an extra day because we liked the site so much.

It's sprawling site, lot's of good, flat tent pads for a large group like yours, good view of the water and good landing area. Lots of good trees to hang food, tarps or hammocks. Ogish also has good fishing. Not the best pics, but here's a couple of photos of that site from 2018, though they don't really do it justice:

I would probably stay on Ogish or Little Sag and come back through Tuscarora. Lots of burn areas in that route.

Maybe these trip reports to that area will give you some ideas???

I stayed there as well last Spring. It's a great site.

I think I have a spot for you if you can get it. A couple years ago we stayed at the island site #785 on Ogish. We had to wait a day to snag it, and hung out at #786 until it was free - 786 was decent but kind of buggy. I highly recommend 785, awesome site, you can hike up the hill behind it for incredible sunset views. Nice little swimming spot where you pull up the canoes. The kitchen/hangout area is beautiful, wind kept the bugs down to almost zero. We didn't want to leave this site, probably my favorite so far in the BW. Caught a few northern and smallies from shore. There is a spot in one of the bays to the SE that produced some nice Walleyes for us one magical sunrise with deep diving Rapelas. You'll see/hear where the water comes into that Ogish bay SE of 785, fish at the base of the falls. Other guys were there the day before snagging them with leeches. In the bay just on the SE side of #786 we caught some nice smallies. You can also day trip into Mueller, and off of the portage going into Agamok on the left you'll see where a trail (Kekekabic hiking trail) heads down towards Mueller Falls, not to be missed! We saw grouse, lady slippers, and lots of moose poop. Enjoy this area, caught enough fish for a couple of meals, despite being told, "there ain't no fish in Ogish!"

We stayed at site #785 last spring... I agree with Scott that it's a nice camp. We had decent luck with fishing at the rapids area SE of camp. There was a bald eagle nest at the rapids area too. Be careful when you walk to the latrine, especially if its raining... there's a big slick rock you go down.

I think one of the nicer sites on Ogish is one not marked in the maps section. It's on the short, fat peninsula as you head into the bay where the portage to Spice lies. Decent walleye reef by the island to the SW. Keep paddling SW to the inflow from Mueller Lake. Take the hike to the Kek Trail and turn left on it to go see Mueller Falls. The Kek trail is faint.....be looking for it.
Also, not a far trip west out of Ogish to go see Eddy Falls, fish the base in SAK, and hit a few other spots in SAK.

Nice site! I had no idea that that one was tucked back in that bay.

The times I've stayed at site #785 I've tied a rope to the tree next to "the big slick rock" to ease my way down the trail to the latrine and then help pull myself back up on the way back.
