I enjoyed last years wing night. I am curious, How far is everyone willing to travel for a wing night. My wife and I were recently asked to join the board of directors for Smokey Timbers Camp (STC) on the North shore of Lake Miltona. It’s a great place. One thought that went through my head was what a great place for a wing night.
Last year we traveled about 120 miles. STC is about 150 miles from Minneapolis.

Fortunate 1, that is all it takes is a person or group to pick a place and date, hope for the best. Myself, no trouble in traveling as far as needed to visit with friends.

Wing Night in Cindy's backyard!?!?!?!?

It could be as simple as people showing up in a park for a Saturday afternoon potluck. I know weather always plays a part so a shelter would be nice.
Wingnight Campouts In the Spring and Fall have been great fun over the years. I want to thank the folks that have shouldered the work and made them great events every time. They have spent many hours on the phone on Holidays getting coveted sites and dates. They have cut a lot of firewood and dealt with Park Rangers and other logistics all the while still taking care of their kids, work and family stuff. Signage, welcoming new people, helping people, hand sanitizer in outhouses, fundraising, prizes, having fun stuff for kids to do, lost and found and dealing with difficult people and keeping outhouses clean. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and these people are rock stars for having done it year after year. I really appreciate their work and have great memories of Wingnights.

+1 - thanks to our organizing group and Adam!

It can happen pretty readily, and there needn't be just one (see the Kishwaukee gathering this weekend over in Illinois...). One time, I was meeting Ben (bhouse, on the site) by Iowa City in autumn to pay him for a canoe I was buying from him. After a few posts, it turned into a gathering at Lake McBride, north of Iowa City. Was a heck of a lot of fun and good visiting and somehow we had people from Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota! (not to mention: the food...) Gotta love this website.

x2jmorris: "When the wing nights are in Duluth where have they been hosted at in the past?"
The few that I know of have been at the Duluth Grill and Beacon Sports Bar, neither place would work for more than 6-10 people.
I've seen large groups have get togethers at Enger Tower, that might work not sure how/if you would/can reserve it.
PS, i'm not it, but I would be willing to assist, Enger is only about 2 miles from my place.
May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

Oh so it has been at restaurants before. Buffalo Wild Wings can accommodate quite a few. Has the turn out been good in Duluth in past events? If it's only 10 to 20 that would work but if it is more then yeah a park with a fryer would be best.

Buffalo Wild Wings is where it all began before my time... many different venues... loads of good times. I feel like I won’t know how to act not having to worry about keeping the wood fire going at home... almost thought I should have one here again to demo the old shack! Haha!

They started at a BWW, hence the name Wing Night. There was numerous venues over the years and eventually morphed into a weekend campout but kept the name. For a while I believe there was a spring and fall , but bad weather and time commitment changed it to just fall. There are still some small gatherings for an evening at various places throughout the area and those are now usually referred to as "mini wings".
"What could happen?"

Just a few old photo's so newer members who have not been to a Wingnite Camp may understand more.
These were large group camps held spring and fall, lack of interest dropped the spring a few years ago, same may be happening to fall unless somebody or a group step up.
Wingnite get together's are much more frequent impromptu gatherings at some local watering hole/ restaurant.

Well.... lack of interest huh. People moved on? Too much travel for some? That kind of sucks. Seeing that one post showing where people live kind of makes it make sense though. Super cool in the past you were able to get such large groups. Again if anyone wants to put something together near duluth I can make almost any night...
Or if we did a poll kind of thing to gauge interest and put like 4 different locations in.

The intermittently annual one held at Duluth Grill in the fall won’t be happening this year. Boonie will be heading straight to Grand Marais this September. We might be meeting somewhere for lunch on the North Shore September 14th. I’m sure he’ll mention something when the time gets closer.

How can he just change things up like that? Haha!

Bumping this cause it'd be nice to meet people and seems the time is running out. Did the original promoter of this grow tired of it or is it just an off year for everyone.

The weekend campout took a lot of work, and it seems interest was diminishing. One of the organizers is now involved with the WaterTribe’s Voyagers Challenge which starts this Saturday. “Wing Nights” don’t have to involve lots of planning like that. Just pick a public venue and time and see who’s available.

Well then I propose October 4th or 5th at Buffalo Wild Wings in Duluth. Or at Nctry's place if he wishes to destroy his shack on the same dates...and supply a fryer.

Dates and location (Buffalo WW) sound good to me. I was just recently communicating with Karen (Hawbakers) about trying to set up a gathering in Duluth. We didn't get started (too busy right now) so I think it's great that you suggested this. I've never been to Buffalo WW and had to look up where it is so wouldn't have enough thought of there. I'm not much of a shopper so seldom go to Mall area. I'd prefer someplace in or near Duluth and not in favor of destruction of Ben's property. :)

But Ginny... without destruction I can’t see the lake to well from my new house. Haha! Well, I’m for BWW in October, but for anyone wanting to camp or visit on that Saturday, Mark and Lisa are coming that last weekend... and I have put out an invite.

Didn't realize destroyed shack was was something desirable. Sorry, x2jmorris, for assuming you were advocating wanton destruction of Ben's property. I should have known better maybe.
So if that ripping and tearing down of shack is what works for you and others, I'd be willing to come and participate. That lake view is darned important.

Isn’t as much the lake view as looking at an old shack ten ft away. Haha!

I'll try to make it, I'd like to bring my drip torch for Ben's place.

Bumping this up. I like the idea of having a Duluth Wing Night. Suggestions were made to have one at Buffalo Wings by the mall and on MEA weekend. I see that MEA is held the 3rd Thursday in October which is Oct 17 this year. Site said that there are no Friday sessions this year so I don't know if that means kids only get one day off of school or two as in past.
I mentioned earlier that Karen and I had considered trying to help set something up but we haven't gotten in touch again.
Anyone else still interested in a Duluth Wing Night? Maybe Oct 18 or 19?

nctry: "So I assume Ginny will post a place and such? Hopefully I’m not plowing snow. Haha!"
Earlier today I posted a message titled "Fall Wing Night in Duluth." Whoever can make it: we'll meet at the Wild Buffalo Wings restaurant near the Mall on Saturday, October 19 around 5 pm for beverage, wings (or your choice) and conversation.
Please check that thread if you can make it or just want to make comments (polite ones only - haha), suggestions or ask questions or let me and others know you are coming so I can reserve right amount of space. Hope to see bwca'ers I've met before or to meet new ones.
