Very nice trip. Felt more relaxed after reading and reliving it even though I wasn’t there :)

Your trip reports are awesome! You write so well.
I am thinking about taking my young family up to the North Shore next year. You gave me some great options for my family. Thanks!

Wonderfully told and photographed. I especially like the yesterday and today contrasting pairs of photos.

Thank you. I consider a compliment from you to be very special. I think I am a frustrated photo-journalist at heart, and I just love chronicling our trips now--making the books.

The other trip report I did two years ago has a lot more of the 2007 photos, since it was Anna's ten-year anniversary trip and we made a conscious effort to honor traditions and repeat things that were meaningful for her.

As the time gets closer let me know. We can give you a whole bunch of ideas.

Awesome trip. Young Anna is very fortunate to have you guys. She will inevitably repeat these trips throughout her future. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, BigTim. I hope she does end up going on a canoe trip sometime. Her parents did, before she was born, and they seemed to have done OK. But they never went on another one. I know Anna would love to do a BWCA trip, so perhaps someday she'll make it a priority.

I was so looking forward to this report. So happy you are feeling better and could share it. Thanks for writing. I enjoyed the younger / older photos a lot. Blink and you miss it. Thank you for sharing the trip!

Thank you, jillpine.

I actually debated about putting in any of the 2007 shots, as I had done so much of that in my 2017 trip report on the same subject. But they seem to be what readers enjoyed the most.

It is true, "blink or you miss it." They grow up so fast. Our daughter, Anna's mother, turned 50 this month. It seems only yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital, a newborn.

Thank you for sharing your yearly trip! It's so wonderful to see Anna continue to enjoy her time in canoe country with both of you. Love all the photos and stories as usual.

What a great read! Your granddaughter is a lucky gal. It sounds like her grandmother has influenced her life in more than just a fun week at a great resort! As she matures I’m sure she appreciates her interactions with you more and more and her respect for you also increases. She sounds like a brilliant young lady with a promising future. She’ll look back at these memories her whole life. Except for a couple maybe awkward moments maybe like trying to get out of the canoe after a long paddle (which I’d totally have experienced) you seemed to enjoy your relaxing trip. I hope you’ll continue to be able to travel to canoe country and enjoy the solitude and peace you deserve.

What wonderful memories and great photography. I loved Anna's photos of the loon and I loved that you included the shots of Anna past and present. Thank you for a fun read.

Thanks, Ben. I did enjoy the trip, and I really do hope that she will be able to do one more next year before she goes off to college.

You are correct, she is a brilliant young lady with a promising future. It will be fun to see what she does with her life. She says she will be an epidemiologist.

If I have had any real influence in her life, it is probably through our shared love of photography. I was very touched after her return from Japan last summer that she presented me with a special birthday gift: a photo book about her trip with absolutely stunning photos. When we first started taking her to the canoe country I always made a regular photo album, with added narrative, for us and an identical book for her. It was a lot of work and very expensive, as it had hundreds of photos. Now I just make a book online at Snapfish, but every single "grandchild vacation" has a book. Both of our grandchildren like to take pictures, and Anna, especially, has developed a good eye and remarkable patience when it comes to photography. Like me, she takes far too many shots of each thing. (The joy of digital, as you can just delete the extras.) There were more than fifty shots of that one turtle--a bit over the top!!

As we did with canoe trips, we began planning the next time before we were back home again. Hopefully, it will happen.

Spartan2,

Nice report. Somehow did not follow up on previous connection with you and Neil. We just got back from five days on Little Long where we stayed with an old friend. Took a few laps in our restored Camp Easton/Winters Camp canoe. Even fished Jean Bobo's bay. No one was at the place and the camp was deserted. Somehow Little Long seems a place of ghosts. There was a light on at Ray and Sue's cabin which finally sold a few years ago. Am still planning a trip to celebrate by 75th in the BWCA. Took my daughter-in-law and son to Basswood Falls (where my ashes will go) two years ago. It was the 60th anniversary of my first trip into the BWCA in 1957.

Don't know if it is possible to PM, but would be nice to get back in touch with Neil who I knew when I worked there as the canoe counselor.

Take care and best to you both.

Beautiful report! Tell Anna I especially loved the loon photos!

I shall tell her! She loves to photograph, and a loon is a wonderful subject.
