missmolly: "Julia-Louis Dreyfus loves the BW and I love her right back. She's a comedy genius. "
I completely agree. Not only that, but she has a lovely singing voice. A number of years ago she had a show, Watching Ellie, on which she played a jazz singer. She did all of her own singing, which I enjoyed immensely.
Watching Ellie clip
"Said one of these men, long past seventy years of age: 'I could carry, paddle, walk and sing with any man I ever saw. I have been twenty-four years a canoe man, and forty-one years in service; no portage was ever too long for me. Fifty songs could I sing. I have saved the lives of ten voyageurs. Have had twelve wives and six running dogs. I spent all my money in pleasure. Were I young again, I should spend my life the same way over. There is no life so happy as a voyageur's life!'"

JLD is welcome on any canoe trip that I take. :)

TomT: "I'm thinking how fun it would be to run into her and share a portage. Surreal, but how cool would that be? "
Totally OT, but Cary Griffith randomly sat down by me last night at a BWAC dinner (he was keynote speaker). It was surreal, like encountering JLD on a portage. Regular guy doing regular stuff. Really cool.

I have always been a fan. I obviously like the BW.
Am I too skeptical? The BW now has the mining controversy. She is from Hollywood. Is there a chance that this might be political?
That said, I will be keeping an eye out for her on the portages.

I had the good fortune to meet Julia-Louis Dreyfus and her husband and friends in the BWCAW this past September. I had gone ahead and set up my hot tent with wood stove a couple of days before they were expected to meet up at my location. I had lots of wood split and ready for the wood stove. The weather was around 35° and light spitting rain on and off again, with a bit of wind. The tent was about 80° when they arrived a bit chilled. We had lunch and spoke of the threats to the BWCAW and about Justine Kerfoots book, and small talk. The picture is after lunch in the warm tent.
After they left to go out of the BWCAW, I struck Camp and paddled out. We all met for supper at trail center that evening.
I am thankful when people speak well about their experiences in the BWCAW.

OMG, you lucky duck! So cool too that you could provide them with lunch in a warm tent.
I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

The lake we met on is one of my personal favorites, If there had been time and better weather a tour around the lake may have afforded some moose viewing.
PaddlinMadeline PM me at dancooke@cookecustom sewing if you want the name of the lake.

Frenchy: "If I met her in the BWCA the first thing would be to ask her for a dance. Remember the Seinfeld episode she danced in?"
Hahahaha that made me laugh. I remember that episode.

Mocha: "Who were the other folks on their trip?"
Tom H. and Karin (sp) from Duluth set up the trip after taking Michael L. on a trip the year before. Michael's wife Jamie who had been studying up on the area reading Justine Kerfoots book, she had many insightful questions. Julia's husband Brad H. was along as well.
I believe they were enjoying the rigors of the late September day trips into the BWCAW and spending nights in some of the different lodges along the trail. Able to travel without folks pestering them for selfies and such. I only took a few pictures with their permission, none with me in the frame.
