Yeah, well. The coldest months are January and February.
Nothing like bright sunshine in Jan when it’s -30’ on the thermometer.

Just sayin’. :)

I always used to trumpet this day to my coworkers as the first day of spring when I was still working. It may be winter but at least one indicator is headed in the right direction. In another month the temps start getting warmer. The vaccine is being deployed. We are headed to Arizona in less than two weeks for the rest of the winter. We are healthy. Things are looking up!!

Just wait. Be careful. I could add much much, more, but will add only this, what happened on the E. Coast will retrograde to the W and slowly S , maybe not as severe, but Winter in True is coming, Just delayed (like the past several) with winter likely into April like the past. Again- could add much more-- Arrowhead of MN is about to get 1' plus. No biggie. But expect this to continue and push gradually S. Those in MPLS should expect a White Christmas.

If you could arrange a white Christmas that would be good.
If you could arrange for it to be gone from my running trails by the day after Christmas that would be, well, better.
Thanks for doing this!

And to mark the day, the "Great" conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter.

Look to the southwest shortly after sundown and the brightest object(s) in the sky (other than the moon) will be the convergent images of these two planets about 20 degrees above the horizon.

I've hauled out my 8" telescope to get a better look this evening (cloud cover permitting), but the "Christmas Star" was very obvious to the naked eye last night.

BTW: This event hasn't been visible on earth for the past 800 years. (It did occur 400 years ago, but during daylight hours.)

DD, We need you to "part the clouds" up here in MN :) We're overcast and cloudy so we are going to hope for a clearing soon so that we don't miss it! The last one was in 1623?...

Love the solstice. Always a magical night. The blustery winds, fast moving clouds and bright moonlight made for satisfying solstice magic here.

We had a lovely solstice. Delicious dinner followed by skating on the local lake in the dark carrying papier mache lanterns. Moon was out for a while, but then a cloud bank moved in.

Winter is the best. And it's the best time to visit the BWCA. Recently returned from a week long trip. We didn't see a single soul, the weather was mild, the fish were biting and lake travel was about as easy as it could possibly get. Can't wait to get back during trout season.
