Some of us followed the journey of Natalie Warren and Ann Raiho in 2011 as they graduated from college and set off to replicate the Canoeing with the Cree route to Hudson Bay from St. Paul.
Spoiler alert - They DID make it before being iced in, and a new book is out describing their journey. My copy came today, I can't wait to read it!
Photo is my children meeting them along the way in Montevideo, MN.

I will definitely have to get this. My son had the pleasure of doing canoe trips with Natalie's organization, Wild River Academy, while it was in existence a number of years back. And I love reading books by Camp Menogyn alumni!

Yep, got this book on my list as well as soon as I saw it mentioned in MN Conservation Volunteer from this last month. Didn't they come on this website a couple of times to ask some questions?

I'll have to check this one out. Just last night a finished This Water Goes North, which is a tale of four twenty year old guys who did this in 1979 with terrible equipment (jeans, leaky tents and cotton sleeping bags). It is well written and it is an amazing reminder that you don't need specialized gear to thrive.
My brother and I have committed to an empty nest megatrip in 4-7 years and this route is one of our possible destinations. This Water Goes North

We followed their journey too as our daughters were 9 and 5 at the time and having done a number of BW trips with us, we were always looking to inspire them with stories like these of other young women doing great things. We too met them in person before they took off on their trip. Great journey. I look forward to reading the book.

Natalie is doing a FREE virtual book kickoff. Sounds like Ann Bancroft will introduce her, then moderated Q&A.
YES - they did come here for a bit looking for gear tips I think.
straighthairedcurly - jealous for your son. Never worked out for my kids.
Chuckles - sounds like another good book, I will check it out, thanks!

Another book about a similar trip:
Adventure North by Sean Bloomfield.
I found this when Sean was selling his book in the “book tent” at the Knife River Julebyen in 2018 or 2019 (everything pre-COVID seems like a lifetime ago).

With this recent book, that’s at least four books chronicling this route, which I find quite interesting.
