Need some ideas for some good winter pac boots that are going to last. Years ago, I was a fan of the good old Sorel Caribou boots, but no more; the last pair I had lasted less than five years. So, you folks are sure a better bet than Google, and thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Hoffman of Idaho or Schnee's. Both are resoleable. I have and use both. Liners are interchangeable between these brands.

Mark, looking for function over style? Wet use or primarily dry?
I still have a serviceable pair of Lacrosse Iceman going on 25 years old but they have recently been upstaged with US military surplus Air Force mukluks
Ugly as all h--- but very functional and inexpensive. I Scotch Guarded the canvass and use my own full foot 11 mm wool liners and one of the included 1/2 inch felt soles. My Iceman's have seen little use since I bought them.

I have had Sorel's in the past and switched to Baffin Boots. They have been rock solid, waterproof, and extremely warm. I put them through their paces when I worked for a snow removal company for many years, as well as time spent out on the lake. Needless to say they have seen many, many hours in the worst conditions, and passed the test. My current pair are over 10 years old. For $200-$250, I don't think that you can go wrong.

A dapper pose, to say the least!

Just ordered a pair of Schnee's, and I am assuming they will be the last pair of winter pac boots that I will ever need. Thanks to all who offered ideas!

EDIT: Just cancelled the order once I learned delivery is 6-8 weeks out. So, the search continues.

I ended up ordering a pair of Baffin Snow Monster boots today. 20% off at REI, so a good price for a boot with excellent reviews.

I'd encourage you to check out Hoffman Boots out of Idaho. They are quite similar to Schnee's.

Well, the Baffin boots arrived, and they will be going back. They run small and ungodly narrow.

Sorry to hear that Frenchy. I did not experience that, though I bought mine over 10 years ago, so my memory might be foggy. It is difficult sometimes buying online without being able to put your hands on it first.

No need to apologize! I had a pair of Baffins years ago, and I really liked them-and I do not recall them being so tight. Back then, I was able to try them on in a local store; that is becoming less and less a reality. REI carries them, but only online. It is an easy return, however.

Too bad those Baffin's didn't work out. I wouldn't like waiting 6-8 weeks for a pair of boots, but given how much I like my Schnee's, I might (if I needed to; mine'll probably last me the rest of my active years).
How about the Hoffman's? When I was looking, they seemed close to the Schnee's.

I am reluctant to spend over $300 for boots that I cannot try on. I have a fairly wide foot, and after the Baffin experience, I want to make sure the boots are going to fit properly-especially if they are going to take two months to receive.
