Can anyone give a bug update? I usually go in end of September but have to go in earlier this year. Im assuming they are as lively as ever as it hasnt cooled off much at night yet. I see possible frost tonight which will help.

I was on Brule from 08-31 to 09-03. Never applied repellent and got one mosquito bite the entire time.

In July I was on Alpine and Seagull. There were skeets at dawn and dusk and I did put on some repellent one morning but they were no worse--and maybe a bit better--than some other BWCA trips I've done.

A couple of nights ago I was out in my backyard in central MN at about 8:15 PM and the mosquitos were worse there than on either of those two BWCA trips this year.

Bugs are mostly done now, they had their last hoorah a couple of weeks ago & they are now fairly insignificant. A few may come out at/about sunset, though they are markedly less effective (I almost felt bad for the one I saw last night & thought I might refrain from smooshing them for the rest of the season because it’s performance was so pitiful).

I was out last week and found that in some areas I didn't need any spray at any time. Whereas, some areas the mosquitoes were swarming all the time. Definitely better than 3or 4 weeks ago.

Enjoy Brule! Not sure how familiar you are with the lake but it was my first time on that body of water. We stayed at and liked campsite #971. It gave nice protection against the prevailing winds and from Brule's notorious waves and was accommodating to our group with good space, tent pads, etc. We thought about camping on Vernon but after walking that portage with minimal gear before we hauled canoes, the steepness of the trail and risk of the "good" site on that lake being taken once we'd hauled everything and we could finally see that site from the water, convinced us to stay on Brule.
