Tariffs were canceled on tourists consumable items. As long as the amounts are consistent with the length of your stay.Tourism lobbyists pressed the Fed and they were lifted.Canadians who travel to U.S. will be tariffed on food brought back.

This is consistent with what's currently on the CBSA's web page; the portion that applies to those of us from the United States traveling to Canada for Quetico trips states: "The tariff does not apply to goods being temporarily imported for personal use (generally your vehicle, luggage and personal items). More information can be found in Memorandum D2-1-1: Temporary Importation of Baggage and Conveyances by Non-residents." See
CBSA Web Page at the bottom of the section titled "How Individuals Will Pay Tariffs, Duties and Taxes they bring into Canada"

The memo they reference is linked from the web page. It's not a new memo (it's dated 2021). I interpreted it as meaning that items brought by non-residents into Canada for temporary, personal use are classified under Canadian tariff code 9803.00.00 (" a person who is not a resident of Canada may temporarily import under tariff item No. 9803.00.00 consists of any goods that the person imports for their personal use and that are appropriate for their needs and consistent with the purpose, nature and duration of their intended stay in Canada, but does not include more than (a) 1.5 L of wine, or 1.14 L of spirits, or 1.14 L of wine and spirits, or 8.5 L of beer or ale; (b) 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 200 g of manufactured tobacco and 200 tobacco sticks; or (c) 200 rounds of ammunition or, if they are for the use of that person at a meet held under the auspices of a recognized shooting or rifle association of Canada, 1,500 rounds of ammunition.")

Tariff code 9803.00.00 is not currently among the tariff codes to which the 25% surcharge/tariff has been applied (25% Tariff), and the tariff amount assigned to 9803.00.00 is "free." (Canada Tariff Codes) Canada could, of course, decide in the future to assign a tariff amount to tariff code 9803.00.00.

There was a duty over a certain amount beyond two days of food. Then booze and cigs. Anyone get charged for being over? Stupid. Stupid. Is there a duty on pot now too? Oh and fish scales and tails to bring home????

I thought the Canadians had a right to be upset and understood their response. All the flipping and chaotic changing can be both funny and sad depending on how you look at it.

I believe a tariff was threatened on tariff posts and posters as well as their families, friends and pets.

agree, I do know most Canadians like Americans very well, their anger is pointed you know where. They have become very united. They want us to come north.
