I recommend entry point # 16 Moose River North....paddle to LLC, check out the pictos, then paddle and portage over to Iron lake and see Curtain Falls.

An easier trip would be to enter at Snowbank, and head up to Cattyman falls, but Curtain Falls are certainly more spectacular and worth the trip.

When you come into Iron Lake go north of Four Island and check out Rebecca Falls also.

Rose Lake, on the east side of the B'dub. Has easy access, a beautiful waterfall, panoramic views on the nearby Border Route Hiking Trail, ..and can be busy, though.

Define "easy paddle".

Off the Gunflint. Clearwater to Caribou, Little Caribou, Pine and take the trail to Johnson Falls. Be sure to see both the upper and lower falls.

There are nice campsites on Clearwater, Little Caribou, Caribou and Pine.

I will second Rose Lake. It is a very easy paddle from the west landing on Bearskin Lake. If you stay on Duncan you will only have one portage. If you go to Rose you will have to take the stairway portage. Here are a couple of pictures. Fist, over look of Rose lake from top of waterfall. Second, stairs at the stairway portage. Third, waterfall from the top looking straight down.

My vote is Johnson falls on Pine lake, the two sets of falls are on the far western shore. Take a trail up to the falls.

The falls mentioned are all great. Just to help confuse the issue, look at Little Indian Sioux north to Devils Cascade. Camp on Shell...can be there in about 4 hours or so. Another pretty little falls on the way.

Lower Basswood Falls and Wheelbarrow Falls are another thought, but they are probably a full day from Mudro and down the Horse River.

Just another view of Rose Falls.

I second Savage Voyageur on the Johnson Falls. The Duncan to Rose Lake Falls along the Stairway Portage are quite beautiful. However, both the lower and upper fall at Johnson Falls have nice pool areas for swimming.
To get to Johnson Falls may take (depending on entry point) a good hike from Canoe Lake; it'd be a tough portage, but a nice walk if you leave your boat on Canoe Lake.

Thanks for the tip, I think my girls are not ambitious enough to paddle to curtain falls, but I will try to motivate them

These girls can run the mile at track and play basketball til they drop but they are fairly lazy about paddling and they dont enjoy portaging that much (kind of petite). they like swimming and having the dads cook for them, so we usually go less than 8 miles one way and not too many portages. thanks we have been to duncan- rose lake falls, johnson falls, and falls between brule and vernon thanks
