Old time commercial
I heard that a Hamm's Beer commercial was filmed up by Magnetic Lake somewhere... Wondering if anyone can confirm and/or find THE commercial to match. I found one commecial, but frankly wouldn't know Magnetic Lake if I was paddling on it (at least until later this week!).

Don't remember if I posted this to you last time, but contact Dan Waters at Candian Waters Outfitters, as the photographer was a family friend? that they took to several places on Burntside Lake to shoot some Hamm's pics.

My first post here.... I love this forum!
From my understanding:
The location was the first portage out of Magnetic Lake. The other side of the portage is the start of the Granite River.

I did indeed rock down to Electric Avenue, but I did not take it higher. I regret that.

You're right, some of those commercials were shot on Seagull Lake. The waterfall you refer to is actually located very close to Seagull on the Granite River. It is the first of the falls just north of Magnetic Lake on the Granite River.
A photo is attached of a recent shot of that waterfall.
"From the Land of Sky Blue Waters (Waters),
From the land of pines, lofty balsam,
Comes the beer refreshing,
Hamm's the Beer Refreshing".

Bear Island Lake, Just south of Ely. Is where the commercial is from. I just happened to stay at a cabin on that lake last year and the owner had Hamm's beer stuff and the serving tray with the lakes piture on . She also had several articles about the lake being used for the commercials

BW - As I understand it - commercials were filmed in a number of places in northern Minnesota, including Little Rock Falls. Little Rock Falls is the first set of falls as you enter the Granite River from Magnetic Lake. If you want to find out more, Bruce or Sue Kerfoot from Gunflint Lodge can probably help.

I can’t confirm any locations, but it sure is funny how marketing works. No lofty balsam on the East side of St Paul. At least the brewery was located a couple blocks upstream from Swede Hollow; where the outhouses were perched on bridges over Phalen Creek. I’m pretty sure the water came from the Prairie du Chien / Jordan aquifer. That is the same aquifer that underlies Lacrosse, Chippewa Falls, Milwaukee, and Green Bay, as well as Des Moines. I wonder if the breweries in any of those locations should be able to allude to the same exact images.

And it's only right that you are commenting on a beer commercial.

I remember asking this same question a couple of years ago and got a pretty long thread started. I belive everyone believed at that time was the Hamms commercial was shot in the BWCAW area, but not a big consensus of where it was shot. Some said Magnetic Lake, a few thought Burntside.
I just thought the bear was great! I still sing the jingle and play the drums in the shower from time to time.
