Last time I was in Great Smoky Mountain NP we did our own waterfall tour. I will never forget the trip.
Are there waterfalls in the BW that I should add to the 'must see' list? Favorite/recommended waterfalls? Granted I probably couldn't see them all in one trip like we did in the NP.
thanks,
Carrie

the big well known falls have already been named--but--when i
was in the BWCA during the first two weeks of june there were
"waterfalls" everywhere..from Steep lake into Eugene there was
a small one that made several leaps into the brush near the portage...in a quiet setting like that it sounded like a leaf chopper
in action..on Little Bear Track a "waterfall" from a stream that
was a foot wide made a whole series of drops down to the lake..
on a bay of La Croix the sound of a "waterfall" that was no bigger
than a 8 inch culvert dropped onto a rock shelf and into the lake
with a noise that filled that baylet..there were several others
all surrounded by pads of moss and wildflowers that looked like
something out of a Zen garden...the big falls like Basswood are
real heartstoppers during high water..they kill people too..
and Curtain falls is such a wonder that i have seen people
drop to their knees at the sight of it--no joke--
the Devils Cascade on the Indian Sioux is a great wild rush
of water thru a clef in the shield rock and little Pocket Creek
between Pocket and Finger lakes is a place you could spend
hours exploring the mini-rapids and falls....
it's just a level trail thru the woods.

I second Johnson Falls. Also the small falls at the stairway portage between Duncan and Rose is cute. All of the rivers along the north shore as kanoes alluded to are beautiful and don't require a paddle for viewing. If you go into the BWCA via the Gunflint Trail you will have driven past many beautiful falls. Cross River is pretty spectacular too!

Not in the BWCA but close is the high falls on the Vermilion River. It's near Crane Lake, an easy side trip if you are accessing the Echo Trail from the Buyck side. The gorge on the vermillion isn't really a falls but is highly scenic nonetheless. That is accessed from downtown crane lake--it's in Voyageur's.

I'd have to go with Johnson falls. The walk there and the fact that its surrounded by trees and not right off a lake makes it an interesing experience.
You've got a couple of options for getting there and the paths are well traveled, by man and moose.
See the pic of the falls and of a moose print on the trail.

I guess I need to know where these falls are (for those that didn't clarify). I'm pretty familiar with the waterfalls on the North Shore, but the ones in the BW aren't known to me and I don't know where in the BW to find them.
Thanks for all the suggestions and pictures, they are great.
