Awhile back Kanoes turned me on to an indie rock band called the Sick Puppies. One of their more popular songs is titled "Maybe." On my first solo last year, and now anytime I'm alone outdoors, the chorus of this song plays over and over in my head. Here's the Acoustical Version .
Anyone else hear music in their head when soloing? If so, what's your song(s)?

Without fail, whenever I start hitting my pace, this song gets back into my head and stays there the whole trip:
Miles from Nowhere by Cat Stevens

On my last couple trips it's been "Here Comes the Sun"
I have a pretty good play list in my head, that occasionally comes out of my mouth.
Better than singing in the shower for sure

quote missmolly: "I mostly sing whatever stupid song is stuck in my head, so I sing that same song again and again, twisting the turning the lyrics more and more."
+1 for those times that I sing. I don't often do it actually. I do, however talk to myself.
You say that like it's a bad thing.

If I had a song to pick it would be this one. Ronnie Lane (of Small Faces and Faces fame) doing Anymore For Anymore.
It's about traveling the country and selling and buying things at auction in rural Wales, England. A gypsy's life. I just love the feel of the song. It was recorded live at his farm's backyard while sitting in the grass.

I hear music in my head pretty much every waking hour...my daughter Emily teases me about it. She'll ask, at any given moment, "What song is playing now, daddy?"
I found the most prominent song on the trip from which I just returned was the Rolling Stones' "Moonlight Mile." When I got back to my car, I cranked it way up and listened to it about 5 times!

A lot of songs pop into my head and it would be impossible to remember what and when. However, "American Pie" would be at least as likely as any other song to enter my head while paddling.

quote Bannock: ""Born to be Wild" Steppinwolf"
have sung that a few times too
if you are ever on a lake with good echo (Jake Lake in Woodland Caribou is a good one): Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
although using the term "singing" may a bit of a stretch
let science, not politics decide, ... but whose science?

An old French paddling song that I learned in high school. I no longer remember the name or most of the words, but the first verse keeps repeating over and over.
Otherwise, not a lot of music in my pea sized brain.

Heard somebody refer to this as "a song sticking like flypaper on the brain." Very appropriate.

Dokken--- "Breaking the Chains". Or Great White "Lady Red Light".
something about 80's metal hair on solo's. More into Rupert Holmes "DO you like Pina Coladas'" and Jay Ferguson's "Thunder Island" for group trips as every one can sing along and has that beat for loong days.

"Im floating down a river
Oars freed from their holes long ago
Lying face up on the floor of my vessel
I marvel at the stars and feel my heart overflow"
I keep visioning myself paddling in the boundary waters with this song playing in the background. Brings me peace of mind. Aqueous transmission by incubus.

There's an old Danish Folk Song that I learned when I was in 4th grade(1972) and have never forgotten. It's called The Danish Hiking Song
Hustle up you lazy good for nothing sofa lovers
Dust the cobwebs from your soul
Join our happy song
as we stride along
with the forest and the fields our goal
Take your leave from books our musty dusty friends and tyrants
and declare your liberty
Books may be okay
for another day
But today we will be gay and free
Chorus
Blue skies are calling
Gentle winds are blowing
Kind Mother Nature heals the strain and ends decay
Where flowers bloom and quiet streams are flowing
We find the strength to meet the tasks of today.

On most solo trips, a song pops into my head and remains for several days or more. On my Mack solo this summer, Kiss On My List by Hall & Oates stayed in my head almost the entire trip. Then on my solo to Ted a few weeks later, All I Need is a Miracle by Mike and the Mechanics stayed in my head...love those two songs....
