TB great report, I'd seen your videos I was wondering how the trip went, glad you had a good time.

What a trip! I love winter but -34 is a bit chilly for anyone's feet! Food looked wonderful!

Great report, thanks for sharing. We've stayed at that site on Snipe in the summertime and it's fun to see pics of it in the winter.

You are really getting into the winter camping. I guess you are a better man than me. I plan my winter trips for March and if the forecast calls for cold weather, I rent a cabin.

I really enjoyed reading your trip report - and enjoyed the videos too. Loved hearing the "crunching" of the snow underfoot as you made your way through the forest. It looks like it was a great trip!

Great trip my friend. It was good meeting you and the rest of your friends and spending some quality time outdoors. You can't beat a fire starting competition in the field.

Great report. Missing link is one of my favorite winter lakes.

Too bad the fishing wasn't better for you guys, there's some nice trout in there.

This makes me want to go again, the last time I went It was about -30 we didn't have a hot tent. Cured me of winter camping for awhile.

What kind of tent are you using?

Basically it's a homemade Snowtrekker. Shawn went down And picked up some material, made the cuts, and had a friend sew it up. I think 5 people could sleep inside if we kept only gear we needed to sleep inside.

Needless to say, I was very appreciative of the stove each morning.

I'm guessing that you're referring to one of the pieces of closed cell foam?

We use those around camp on occasions when we need to kneel. (processing firewood, digging through a duffel bag, cooking etc.) Also, it serves as a cushion on the seats of our chairs or can function as a seat in it's own right on top of a sintered snowbank.

Been trying to decide if bringing a chair is worth it this winter...

Nice report. A piece of foam to kneel and sit on is invaluable. If I base camp with a hot tent I may bring a chair. for the longer evenings. Kind of different experience with people coming and going.

Yes, I don't recall ever having to incorporate that dynamic into a trip. (in any season) Fortunately, it caused no problems.

Thanks again for the bag! It instantly became a coveted piece of gear in my winter camping arsenal.

Further winter camping adventures.....

Today we made it to Lake Maria State park and hiked a few miles around the trails, stopping at about the mid point to prepare & enjoy some hot chocolate and snacks. Weather wise it was a perfect day, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the woods.

I loved this report. The pics and video were great too. I don't winter camp so it always amazes me how you guys can get this stuff down to where you're comfortable and eating quite well. There are some advantages of this over summer like no worry about food perishing and no bugs for sure.

Thank you (and to everyone) for the nice comments.

In my book, another big advantage is that you can pretty much eat whatever you like without feeling so guilty. (As extra calories are needed to maintain warmth) So things like bacon & chocolate are virtually staples in my winter camping diet. :)
