So I am curious as to the size of the tackle boxes people bring on these canoe adventures. I am on going on trip number 7 and I have found that my tackle box size increases every year. If I extrapolate to the age of 75, I would need a separate canoe to hold my tackle! I don't really need all the junk I bring, but I want to be ready for every conceivable fishing situation. Now I have a soft side tackle bag (the bass pro KVD bag with room for 5 plastic boxes. It takes up 1/3 of my BWJ pack. I am taking one of my strapping sons with me, so the extra weight won't bother me. What do other people bring? I assume I am at one extreme.

All set for Q for a week. Jigs, crank baits and spoons. I never feel the need for much more than that... and we fish hard all week.

My normal tackle box is massive. Pushing close to 30lbs. I have small double stack tackle box I take to the bdub and keep it I'm my daypack but can never fit as much stuff as I want in it. I would love to buy the duluth softside tackle box but I'm to cheap. I spent 70 bucks 2 years ago on a nice cabelas tackle box and its falling apart. Great tackle bag but not made very good. Looking for new options. Even might go back to my old plactic tackle boxes with the shelves that pop out when you open it.

Most guys have way more tackle than they actually take. Its all about the particular trip, how many and long are the portages, base camping or moving everyday. Once you've been at this game a while, the lure collection gets big. Parring down in weight and bulk is a big part of your trip planning but you never want to be on a lake and they are killing a lure you didn't bring - especially if you have a bunch of them at home. The best advice I think is to really think about your past trips and the lures you always bring but seldom use. Pack your tackle a few months before the trip and just look and think about your box/boxes. I find I initially take way too much, then pare it down as it gets closer to go time.

Well I've got a few more years to reach 75 so I better get going on buying more tackle. FRED

I was getting a little worried about myself until I found this thread. I feel I'm in great company of well versed (wise) fishermen. I have passed this on to my paddling partner who thinks I'm crazy with what I take in my "carry on luggage" as he says.

Yes, it's fun to have an entire tackle store at the ready for every cast, but this may very well be the year that I limit myself to bringing just the 2 or 3 'tried-and-true' Rapalas which I wind up using 99.9% of the time anyway.
3 or 4 of each, I suppose...
and in 4 or 5 different colors...
some big ones, some little ones...

way less that 1% get wet...unless the boxes are open and its raining at the time. :)"
K - you may be right! In years past I've actually taken pictures of lures that caught fish to aid in planning for the next year.
This one doesn't include soft plastics.

I bring one similar to this plus one more filled with Raps. I change it up slightly every trip depending on the water bodies.
All Rapalas that wander are not lost.

I carry a Bass Pro tackle bag that holds 5 plano boxes...but I only bring one plano box in the canoe when I'm fishing (from a base camp)

I'm addicted to lures, but last year I tried to minimize by using durable baits. These include the Elaz-tech soft baits (a bag of zulus, a bag of zeros, maybe some finesse worms and tubes, a frog) and titanium spinnerbaits (Terminator). Now if I could find hard baits for bass and walleye that pike can't destroy. A few colors of each lure and I'd be set.

As I used to tell my fishing buddy....you would catch a whole lot more fish if you didn't spend so much time switching lures. ;)
Mine keep getting smaller. Usually one plano with an assortment of raps and a few jigs and a spoon. My theory is that if they are not biting on my "go to stuff" then I never have enough confidence for to try all the other stuff. Better to spend time hunting for some active fish with the tried and true than play the switching lure game.
