Excellent report!

I think (at least one time) everyone should be allowed the opportunity to take a tow ride up the Loon river. Exhilaration defined!

Sounds like Poobah is the 'new' Big Moose? ;-) Quite the adventure. Thanks for taking the time to share your story.

Great report. The fisherman in me appreciates all your tips for success. I hate dragging my depthfinder on our trips, but obviously it helps emensly.
Could you give a link to where I can buy a screened tarp like the one you used?
Thanks, Jeff

Wowzers Lee! That was a trip most fishermen can just dream about. I MUST do that trip someday.

Nemo equipment is where I got mine. CCS and Kondos also makes them.

Great report. Thanks for sharing. Would have loved to see a picture of that monster pike!

I enjoyed your trip report especially since we had already planned to go there next year. Your description of the water above twin falls scares me a little because my son and I are not the greatest paddlers. Did you shorten the portage? Is there another portage on the other side of the falls. Anyway, glad u had a great time and your report is giving me palpitations about next year.
08/07/2013 01:05PM
From where they drop you off at Twin Falls there is only one portage to the canoe loading area. You will be fine if you hug the left bank facing upstream. We did not do this which was the problem. The water was also extremely high that added to our minor moment of panic. Hug the bank and you will be fine.

Wallee, love your reports. Two thoughts; 1) bet you go back but not next year. 2) you guys are WAY over the top on the number of fishing poles you bring. Don't even want to know about your tackle!

Wow what a trip! Sounds like some pretty incredible fishing!!! Haven't made it up to the Quetico yet but this makes me want to go! I don't know if I could ever get tired of catching fish though but I guess I've never caught as many as you guys did in that week. Thanks for your detail and tips, it was an entertaining read. would have loved to seemore pictures of all the fish but I suppose after awhile of catchingso many fish it didn't make much sense.

Poobah was my first trip to either the Q or BW...it was amazing from all aspects. We camped on the island close to the memory lane portages and hit up the no name lake for lakers...i can't wait to go back some day!

Great write up!

Just re-read this and realized I didn't comment the first time. Great report and pictures. Would be the best fishing trip of a lifetime, maybe! --Goose

When you say you trolled... Did you troll cranks, something else, or always just jigs with a twister tail?
09/19/2018 06:24AM
Nice report! How did I miss this one.... Those lake trout look real healthy. And good deal lugging in the screen tent. I have one too and it's a great investment for base camps.

Slow troll or drift with white twister tails.

they trolled as in the boat they were in from zups and whatnot
its not a BWCA experience, i mean it is but its a crock
keep that shht out of iron too
go to iron and paddle around in the mid-morning a few days, mid week and before prime season and u will find some wannabes wrecking campsites, feigning like they give a shht, again, acting the part in public but full of it, in reality..
facebook realities
clogging every site, meanwhile, for a week, 8 out of 9 sites get taken , many from people getting tows from places like zups to head to a lake that is a "destination" to the many who do not know of those tows and whatnot, they just see a lake way up north with limited access points as far as the stuart entry and or others are quite a decent trek when just glancing at maps... one would think going to iron or many of the great lakes that look like a good destination for a canoe..but in reality get ruined by people getting tows, being lazy
call it what it is, cheating and stupid. go to pool 2 if u want to just catch nice walleyes or lotw or mille lacs
dont sit there in ur boat or tow from ur boat and post up with all ur gear and snipe all the big walters, when some people are busting their as--es getting up there and being respectful of their footprint/pollution/waste/ the SPORT of actual fishing.. i mean cmon...blah blahb blah
hate all u want but it is what it is

and also since this is a tangent
next time we will track all of u who wreck campsites too, and i will long range photograph u
and then we will put u on blast on here!
please actually be more respectful when in nature! this means noise too and by proxy! why cant people understand that we are not there to see each other, we are there to enjoy nature.. so dont go out of your way to post up fishing infront of us either! (campsite) that is passive agressive, and i will harass u or get mad and then my wife will get mad at me lol ,. go fish the inside turn infront of ur own campsite, or i will! seriously. geez what is up with all the fools around up there. just doesnt make sense, yet it does. with all the great marketing the b dub gets, what can we expect? just do to better ourselves! okay cool! thank u.

Wow I guess you told me! I have taken close to 100 trips into canoe country over the last 40 years. I have used a tow a total of 5 times out of those 100 trips. I guess if that’s being lazy, and abusing the resource then I am guilty!! I have did many of the hardest, most remote trips and portages canoe country can throw at a person. Check out Zephira Lake. Not a cakewalk. As far as keeping fish, I may eat a Walleye meal one night, but all other fish are released. I would say I keep 1 out of every 100 fish I catch, if that is abusing the resource I guess I’m guilty as charged.

Great trip report!
Wallee got a tow to a lake, portaged, and went to another lake and pounded the fish!
Relax:)
Maybe you need to sit in a hammock with a brandy and cigar:)
Awesome job Wallee!!!

And... you are gonna track people with long range photos?
Please..

By the way, Wallee stated he fished out from "his" campsite. Is that wrong?
