quote MHS67: "quote lindylair: "hobbydog, love the mallard landing, great shot. Also the owl hunting. I hear sandhill cranes a lot but don't see them much; don't have a single good shot of them. Nice stuff. "

Tell me when to stop...I guess I had more "decent" bird photos than I thought. I camp, hike and explore a lot in Northern MN and the BWCA. Living in a southern suburb of the Twin Cities, I think I get more and better bird shots hiking the natural areas around here than I do up North. All of these were taken at Lebanon Hills Regional Park or Fort Snelling State Park.

My father-in-law with his pet turkeys. They stayed in a cage at night and in the morning he would go down open the cage. The turkeys would get in the jeep for the ride up to the house. At the end of the day he would open the jeep door, turkeys would get in for the ride back to the cage for the night. Really!!

quote Mocha: "what is that second bird? at first glance I thought it might be a hummingbird"
It is, female ruby throat. It was shot through my dirty front window, it was probably 3 feet from the window. It was sitting in a bush next to a feeder. I cropped the photo, so you could see the bird.

quote AJ2008: "quote MHS67: " Barn Owl"
Is that an Eastern Screech Owl?"
Just checked in our Sierra Nevada field guide. I'm pretty sure you are on to something. Its not a barn owl like most we have around here. The book says its a Western Screech Owl. Don't know the difference between the Eastern and Western, or if there is a difference. Thanks for the correction. Larry

Hey, no problem. I didn't mean to have it sound like I was correcting you; in fact, I didn't know where you were located. We both learned something.......great shot!!!!

Black-crowned Night-Heron on a fly by at Horicon National Refuge.
I have not had a BW trip for three years now and Horicon Marsh was my "go to" place to get away this summer. Got quite a few pics there and hope to share them over the winter.
