What a wonderful trip report! I remember some of your pre-trip post and questions, and am so glad you two ended up having a great trip. All the G.o.T. references went over my head, but the rest rang true with me. Take notes now, and start planning the next trip.

Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed your writing style and descriptions. My first trip ever we went out of Snowbank and we followed your exact route to Ashigan Lake. We were able to get the site directly across from the portage. It's pretty rocky and wide open so you probably found a better campsite.

I do wonder if TKO had a chance to write his version what embarrassing stories would he have to tell but you did mention getting wet at the end of your first day (pants falling down - hilarious anecdote). I loved the sunset picture you shared and am hopeful you will share some more pics with us?

Seeing that many eagles is remarkable. I'd like to know more about your "living room"? A fold-up net that you would retreat to? Was there anything of use/value in that old tackle box?

I added a few more pictures including some of our living room. I bought it off the internet for about $14 including shipping and it was worth every penny! It was like a bendable hula hoop at the top and in the center was a metal ring that you could tie a rope to hang it from the tree. We would then spread out the netting and put rocks around to hold it down. It worked so well. I was impressed. While traveling I would just stuff it into our clothing bag and we didn't even notice it in there.

And I let my husband read this before posting it. Let's see. . . Nope, I didn't really have any embarrassing things happen to share, which is quite a feat for me! 5 days and nothing embarrassing. My embarrassing things usually involve button up shirts and high high heels. . .

The tackle box had so many lures in it but we couldn't even see what exactly was there. The whole contents of the box was the color of the BWCA.com logo and was 1 solid glob of jabby metal. It wouldn't have even made cool art work, because I thought about it. . .

Your writing is just delightful! The happiness you felt is really apparent. I planned our first trip too (although my husband had been to the bw a few times as a kid). Looking forward to see what you plan next on those 'nice paths'!

Fun report. After many amny trips, it still takes me a bit to get the whole 'scale/perceptipn thing right with navigating. And at least a couple times a trip something throws me off.

I also think it's hard to gauge distance at first because we are going from a mila a minute with no effort to a mile every 20-30 minutes with considerable effort.

That was a very enjoyable trip report. It has been a long time since we were on those lakes, and I don't remember details, but I do remember trips with my husband when I was young and energetic. Your report brought back good memories. :-)

Navigating was not at all one of my concerns going into the trip, so when I got "lost" on the very first lake, it was well, a little embarrassing and panic inducing. After getting the scale and perception right from, yes, a mile a minute to 30 minutes a mile, I did so much better.

I am glad I brought back memories for some. The lakes we were on were so pretty. I can imagine that years down the road if I read a similar trip route in a report it will bring back memories. The small lakes between Snowbank and Ensign were so remote feeling, yet we were so close to the entry and then Vera. That lake was just amazing. The trip from Knife back to Moose was like a kick in the pants back to reality. So many more people. If I have the opportunity to go again, I will probably want to spend more time on less traveled lakes.
