Is your yoke setup always on your canoe when traveling, and do you have a sliding seat in your solo?

Kinda personal isn't it? :)

Chuck at spring creek made a seat that snaps in and out and can be used as a camp ? chair. The yoke mounts on the front to portage and slips on the back for travel. I had a web seat on a sliding pedestal with a crazy creek type chair on it. I had the gunnel mount yoke and switched to the chosen valley pedestal mounted yoke which I liked the best. I always made sure my yoke was secured somehow so I wouldn't lose it.

For some reason I never really considered that the yoke wouldn't float until the year I rented from Rockwood and Mike had tied it to the thwart with a piece of paracord. I assume someone must have lost one of theirs ;). I must remember to put that on my gear list so I don't forget to do it in the future.

Thanks for the info, have to do some playing around with a different yoke setup that stays attached.

My Chosen Valley pedestal yoke floats, not high in the water but definitely floats.

Thanks, Banksiana, that's good to know since I'm pretty sure the ones that come with rentals wouldn't.

I just assumed they didn't.

When I bought my seat mount yoke, I asked Kevin at Chosen Valley if it would float. His answer was - for a while - eventually water will seep into the aluminum tubing. Never have tested exactly what "for a while" means.

Bet a bit of Great Stuff foam squirted into the tubing would keep it afloat.
